E-Hall Passes Monitor the Tank

Gone are the days of paper passes.  Sharks were introduced to a new pass procedure in the second week of the 2022-23 school year.  The eHall Pass works from both a student's cell phone and through a website.

The creators of the eHall Pass say it is a "ground breaking software solution... made to make the long, tedious, and uncertain process of a paper pass easier and safer."

Students create their own pass requests by selecting a destination on the system.  A staff member then sees the pass on their screen and can approve or deny the pass.

One benefit is that school security and other staff can use the system in emergencies to secure locations of all students.  Additionally, "the administration can see the data on [pass use], and they can see missed learning opportunities for each of the students," said Dr. Garret Denison, a math teacher.

Students and teachers had mixed reviews following the first week of e-passes.

"If you need to use the bathroom during class, if your teacher doesn't see [the pass] on the screen, it'll time out and you'll have to keep submitting until the teacher actually sees it," said freshman Easton Watson.

While there are still many student questions about the logistics, administration is hopeful the system will pass the test.
